Entry requirements

Our clients often prefer candidates with a high level of accounting experience and interest in and knowledge of New Zealand’s taxation legislation.

A degree in accounting, finance, economics, business, or business administration would be advantageous.

What could you be doing?

A Tax Accountant’s role is quite specialised. Reporting to the Tax Manager, a Tax Accountant’s typical day-to-day duties can include:

• Recommending tax strategies that align with business goals
• Preparation and lodgement of tax returns
• Providing tax advice on all taxation matters
• Reviewing, updating and improving tax-related systems
• Keep up to date with changes to the taxation legislation
• Liaising with New Zealand’s Inland Revenue Department (IRD), auditors and regulatory bodies when required

Progression

After several years’ working as a Tax Accountant, you may expect to move into a more senior or specialist tax position.

Who makes a great Tax Accountant?

A CA or CPA qualified Accountant or an Accountant who has nearly finished their chartered qualification, and has a solid understanding of modern financial systems, budgeting, and forecasting. You will also need to be enthusiastic and an excellent communicator, have a keen eye for detail, and the ability to juggle workloads and deadlines without breaking a sweat.
