Entry requirements

Our clients often prefer candidates with a range of financial accounting experience, with sound knowledge of New Zealand (NZ GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

In many instances, holding a relevant business or accounting qualification, or studying towards or obtaining a full membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), will be advantageous.

What could you be doing?

A Financial Accountant’s role can be varied and differ from business to business. Usually reporting to the Financial Controller or Accounting/Finance Manager, these professionals are responsible for managing and reporting the company’s financial performance.

Typical day-to-day duties can include:

• Preparation of monthly and yearly financial reports
• Managing the general ledger including reconciliations
• Preparing GST, FBT, payroll & tax returns
• Assisting with budgeting & forecasting
• Training and managing junior accounting staff

Progression

After several years’ working as a Financial Accountant, you may expect to move into a more senior accounting or management position.

Who makes a great Financial Accountant?

A CA or CPA qualified Accountant or an Accountant who has nearly finished their chartered qualification, and has a solid understanding of modern financial systems, budgeting, and forecasting. You will also need to be enthusiastic and an excellent communicator, have a keen eye for detail, and the ability to juggle workloads and deadlines without breaking a sweat.
